Wow...what an exciting and enjoyable few days! The Kinders have done an amazing job with our last two Exhibitions of the year and I could not be prouder of their accomplishments. I want to thank you for all of your support these last few days--getting your child ready and dressed for both Exhibitions, for helping to set up or break down, and for cheering them all on. Our Kinders have grown so much in their confidence and I have all of you to thank! Thank you, thank you! Unfortunately, as a participant in our Exhibition, I was unable to take many pictures. If you happened to take any pictures of the "Happy and Healthy Me" Exhibition or the Performing Arts Exhibition, please post them on our Shutterfly sharing site or email them to me.
This has been an amazing year and truly one of the most satisfying years of my career. I believe that part of my role as a Kindergarten teacher is to help develop a positive attitude toward school and nurture the natural curiosities of my very young students. I feel very confident that all of our Kinders LOVE learning, creating, investigating, and going to school. Just yesterday, as we practiced singing our song for our ceremony, one of our Kinders said out loud, "Hey, that part of the song is kind of sad." It got the whole class quiet and pensive for a moment. And within minutes, there were tears from a few! Please remember to talk about this transition with your children. Just like for me, watching your children finish their year and become first graders is exciting, but also bittersweet. I think they are beginning to realize that they will not be going to the same class every morning and may not be with the same friends. Place emphasis on the positive, give a little more TLC, and remind them that friends can stay friends even when they are not in the same class. To help ease the transition and get your child even more excited for the first grade, I encourage you to attend the first grade Exhibitions this week. The first grade teachers are all phenomenal and have all facilitated very strong and unique projects. Their Exhibitions are as follows: Ms. Magoon's "Kite's for Kids" Exhibition will be held on Monday, June 18 from 4:00-5:00 in her classroom and then on the field. In this first grade project, students investigated the question: "How do kites fly?" Mr. Romo's first grade class created their own "Monarch Waystation and Butterfly Garden." They will debut HTe's butterfly garden and exhibit all of their work on Tuesday, June 19 from 10:00-11:30. Ms. Leahy's first graders will present their own "Story Hour" on Tuesday, June 19 from 4:00-5:00 in their classroom. As the year ends, I kindly look to all of you for any feedback to strengthen our Kindergarten program at HTe. When you find the time this week, please complete our End of Year survey. Your feedback is so greatly appreciated! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WPCCNPL Please make sure to subscribe to our Health and Wellness blog at www.happyandhealthyme.wordpress.com On the bottom right corner, you will see a "Follow" button. We had a another awesome week of learning in Kindergarten. We are currently working on our final drafts of our blogs and have spent many days creating beautiful blog entries. This week we worked together to critique each other's work. At HTe, we believe that critique is an integral piece in the creation of beautiful work. During our critique sessions, we make sure that our feedback is:
The children have been very open and receptive to each other's feedback. It is so neat to see the changes they are making based on peer critique. This week we were able to conduct some field work at the South Bay Family YMCA. Ms. Michelle, our facilitator, took us on our a tour of the facilities and then led us in a Kid's Fitness class. The class absolutely LOVED it! They worked on their gross motor skills (jumping, running, crawling) with a kid sized obstacle course, played some fun parachute games, and ended the session with the classic "Freeze Dance." You can check out a clip of the obstacle course here. It was really great fun! We ended our week with a fabulous and healthy Cooking Center with Ms. Laura. The children created fruit parfaits with strawberries, grapes, cottage cheese, yogurt, and granola. For some, it was an opportunity to try new foods. One of our Kinders refused to eat the cottage cheese, but after one bite, she could not get enough of it! Thank you Ms. Laura and Ms. Norma for leading this wonderful learning experience for our Kinders!
We have many "End of Year" Events planned for this month! Please check out our "Special Dates to Remember" tab for our complete list. Our "Happy and Healthy Me!" Health and Wellness Exhibition will be on Wednesday, June 13 from 4:30-5:30 at the South Bay Family YMCA. The Kinders have been working hard and are excited to share what they have learned. Please come dressed and ready to work out! I will need a few volunteers to help set up our Exhibition. If you are available on Wednesday, June 13 at 1:30, please email me. Thank you so much!
