We have had a solid two weeks of learning in Kindergarten! First and foremost, I would love to send oceans of gratitude to my wonderfully supportive Kinder parents. Our first SLCs ran smoothly and a large part of its success was the gentle support you provided your child! Thank you, thank you!
We are deep into our projects and it has been such a beautiful experience for both the children and teachers. The Spider Experts have learned how spiders catch their prey and how camouflage assists in the process. They have also learned why spiders are important in our environment. Spiders are our natural pest control and without them, our world would be over-populated by insects! Can you even imagine that? Miss Danielle's Honey Bee Experts have learned about the inside of a hive and the pollination process. They also learned that without bees, we would not have many delicious fruits! Ms. Cate's Butterfly/Earthworm Experts also learned about the pollination process and collaborated with Miss Danielle's Honey Bee Experts. We had experts from the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Natural History Museum lead interactive presentations for our Kinders this week. Our students had an opportunity to observe (or even touch!) live Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, millipedes, a tarantula, and an echidna (also known as an anteater). The presentations were fun, informative, and powerful learning experiences for the children! As one of the Docents spoke about the spider's anatomy, one of my experts shouted, "That is the spider's cephalothorax and pedipalps!" The Docents were so surprised and impressed by the children's knowledge of insects and spiders! Please make sure to applaud your child for their efforts! We are looking forward to sharing our project during our first ever Winter Exhibition on Thursday, December 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.! Warmest Regards, Mrs. Rosemarie
