Julia observes a variety of beetles from the NAT. We are deep in our project learning here in Kindergarten! This past week, we had Museum Docents visit from the San Diego Natural History Museum also known as "The NAT." In our "Incredible Insects" presentation, we learned about a variety of bugs, arachnids, beetles, and social insects, such as bees, ants, and termites. We even got a chance to observe a real life tarantula! During the anatomy part of the presentation, our Junior Entomologists had a chance to share out their knowledge of an insect's anatomy. The Docents were so impressed to hear our Kindergartners use the words proboscis (butterfly's long tongue) and cephalothorax (a spider's head) correctly and frequently! I am so proud to hear them speak like true Entomologists. Our Kinders are currently working hard on their reading skills and this week THEY were able to read to their Buddies! We have been working on sight word books and next week we will learn to blend "short a" words. The books will be coming home this week so keep an eye out for them in their backpacks. Lastly, we had a fabulous round of Student Led Conferences. It was so neat to hear the Kinders share their project learnings and reflect upon their year. I was so proud to hear the following goals: "I want to get better at being a good friend." "I want to get better at reading books." "I want to get better at writing." The goals were honest and truly student driven. Through this process, we learn that even very young children are aware of what they need to work on and are capable of establishing meaningful goals. To another fabulous week,
Mrs. Rosemarie
